May Happenings....

Hey there...
Just wanted to give everyone an update as to what is coming up on May & a little peek into June..

At our last meeting, we discussed our up coming projects & how we have a lot to do before the end of the year & only 1 meeting left! Can you believe it???

Anyway, our next meeting is set for May 12th. With that said, we already discussed with the girls what they need to do for the next meeting & what we have coming up. We asked the girls to think & do the following:

-A design for our Encampment Flag. The flag should have our troop number on the top, their troop rank (Juniors) & should be an Olympic Themed flag. Most importantly, it should reflect what Troop 612 is all about. We will display everyone's flag ideas at the May 12th meeting and the girls will vote on their favorite or decide they may want to combine a few ideas-- again, this is about them...they, as a troop, should design this flag & we will help them put it all together.

-A design for our swaps at Encampment. In the past, we have done a little ruler on a pin, colored them all and put "troop 612 rules". This time, we are having the girls design their own swap. The girls should be able to explain to each of you what a swap is. We will need to make about 280ish & again, the girls will vote on their favorite design or combine a couple ideas. Once the design is agreed upon, we will purchase the supplies with the troop funds and the girls will put them all together with our help.

-They need to write down 1 song they would like to have at the family picnic for their fashion show.

SO...since we have a lot to do, we have decided to add another meeting time...we will be meeting on

Sunday, May 16th at 1pm at Marianna's house (4222 Blue Beech Lane).

What we will get accomplished on this day:
-The encampment flag
-The swaps
-Our new Troop Banner for the Memorial Day Parade
-Tie-Dye Pillow Cases for our service project

For our service project, we have decided to make pillow cases to donate to charity. More specifically, there's a nationwide challenge called the "1 million pillowcase challenge". Pillowcases are donated to hospitals that treat children with cancer, The Children's Hospital, The Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, victims of fires, earthquakes, ymca, etc. There's a whole list of places that will accept them. We can register Troop 612 as a troop that has donated to this cause. According to the website, to date, they have over 65,835 pillowcases donated nationwide. The pillowcases we make will be donated locally. Debbie has the name of a contact person who will make sure our pillowcases go to a place in need.

We will provide 1 pillowcase per girl. Some of the girls have expressed interest in making more than 1 pillowcase. They are more than welcome to do so, the girls can bring in any extra pillowcases they wish to tie-dye. Debbie received confirmation from her contact that they will accept pillowcases that are tie-dyed.

Finally, the Memorial Day Parade. As far as we know, it's the same day as the prior years. As soon as we firm up the time, we will pass that along to you as well.

Sneak peek into June...
-Encampment on 6/5. We have 17 girls attending this year! It should be a blast. We will pass on more details as we get closer.
-Family Picnic/Fashion Show- we are still working on a date. The girls have asked the 3 of us to break out our ball gowns again...we promised them that we would have something else in store for them...
----

It's important for all of you to know that just because your daughter will not be able to attend Encampment or the Memorial Day Parade, they are still encouraged to come to the May 16th meeting because all the projects are a troop effort. We are all in this together. Their flags symbolizes the troop. The flag will be held in pride knowing that each girl participated in designing & making that flag together.

As always, any questions or concerns, please contact us!
